PhotosynQ in the Park

By Craig Whippo

I am in the planning stages for a citizen science/public out reach project in a nearby National Park using PhotosynQ. If anyone has experience hosting a citizen science project using PhotosynQ, please share what you learned about the logistics of hosting such event or types of project questions to ask. How do you introduce photosynthesis and the multispeQ measurements ... read more

Humidity

By Erik Bergström

Hello! I was wondering if humidity in the protocol of the multispeq represents ambient humidity or the humidity of the inside or surface of the leaf? Anyone knows what is the most likely? /Erik

No saved measurements

By Tsai Lab

Hello, I have my Multispec connected via USB to a windows 10 laptop (I can't get the Bluetooth to work, but that is another issue). The instrument is on and connected. I am trying to contribute/ add more data to a new project that already has a few measurements (it is just a trial). I can click on the project and take measurements, but when I try to submit the measurements ... read more

I'm creating a new project about the effect of fruit/flowers on photosynthesis in nearby leaves... requesting feedback

By Greg Austic

Hey guys, I'm doing the PhotosynQ tutorial project to answer the following question: Question: Does the presence of fruit or flowers impact photosynthesis in nearby leaves? So far, I've looked into the literature and found: Support for higher photosynthesis in leaves nearby fruit, and higher photosynthesis as fruit matured: http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/BF003... read more

Option for private projects

By Alejandro Morales

Hi, At https://www.photosynq.org/buy-multispeq it says the Photosynq platform allows private projects but no details are given. Is it possible to keep data private (or offline) pre-publication? Does the option require additional payment?

Change PQ SPAD

By Andriy Herts, Nataliia Herts

Hi. Measured adaptation of leaf to dark, after turn off light. n/a - control plant on light 0,2 - 20 minutes after turn off light 0,5 - 50 minutes after turn off light 1.5 - 90 minutes after turn off light Changing many parameters. This is normal. But why change PQ SPAD??? photosynq.org/projects/regulation-of-growth-and-development-of-plants-impuls/explore?share=%7B%2... read more

Problem with questions before taking a measurement

By Beatrice Landoni

I created a project (Getting familiar with PhotosynQ) and entered the questions I thought could be useful to answer before taking a measurement. Since it was the first time I was using the MultispeQ and creating a project, I wasn't satisfied with my initial questions and I edited them after taking one or two measurements. The problem is that after editing the questions an... read more

Survey about plant measurement

By Mathilde B.

Hello, I am currently doing a survey on 3D plants measurements. This survey will be published on the special research topic "Plant morphological modeling: Unleashing geometric and topologic potential within the plant sciences" of the journal "Frontiers in Plant Science". I guess this survey might interrest you... it would be great if you can help me by filling the surve... read more

SPAD in "dry" leaves

By Andriy Herts, Nataliia Herts

Hi. I measured chlorophyll content (protocol SPAD) in leaves catalpa in 1, 2 and 5 days after cut. After 2 - 5 days - ФII, LEF - negative values (this is understandable). Indicators of SPAD in the "dry" leaves grow (40, 58, 59.6). Why? photosynq.org/projects/ndvi-photosynq/exploredata?share=%7B%22Series%22%3A%5B%7B%22color%22%3A%22%23428bca%22%2C%22filter%22%3A%7B%22use... read more

Calculating NPQt with the multi-phase flash

By Dan TerAvest

Dave and Tom, I was looking at this trace for the new protocol we are using for Phi2 and NPQt that incorporates the multi-phase flash. The curve looks good (except its possible that the actinic is brighter than the actual light conditions). While the multi-phase flash looks good, and the macro chose the Fm from the multi-phase flash, this results in a negative NPQt, wherea... read more

Project design question for beta vulgaris

By Greg Austic

QUESTION (from Ashley): Mitch and I were talking and thought a drought trial on 6 different varieties of Beta vulgaris in the greenhouse would be cool. We would have one set that would get watered normally and the other would not. My question is what type of sampling system do you think would be best? Take 3 different samples from 5 different plants per box and maybe takin... read more

Control group study setup help

By Craig White

I need guidance on how to set up a side by side comparison of nursery plant trials using biochar. We have just started trials of a product called Cool Terra in several varieties of nursery plants such as Ornamental grasses, Loropetalum, Encore Azaleas, Hydrangeas and more to come. Do I need to set up 3 different projects or more or can I do comparisons in one project? We ha... read more

How to think about selecting leaves to take measurements on

By Anthony Krumeich

It's not obvious to me what sort of heuristic I should use for selecting what leaves to measure, or how many leaves I should take measurements of on a given plant to go about generating a good enough data set. I started by measuring one leaf on each plant, but then I realized that I'm probably introducing variability if I'm not measuring the same leaf each time. So, should ... read more

number of samples for a tree measurement

By Greg Austic

QUESTION: From Matthew Daniel of Tree Preservation Australia: (Matt's creating a really nice tree health indicator survey which includes some MultispeQ sensor data... his question was) How many leaves on each tree should it do? ANSWER from Greg: Well... so it depends. SPAD values are broadly comparable because they change slowly (mostly over several days), but phi2 valu... read more
